Ben Rowen
Ben Rowen is a multi-medium contemporary artist based in Leeds, UK, who’s practice explores the intended purposes of spaces, and how its background features (such as light, sound, temperature and shape) have impacts on its inhabitants. Rowen takes particular focus on how these fundamental features are used in a space, and how with sound and light works, they can then manipulate and change such features in order to achieve different reactions on its inhabitants, but also how it changes the intended purpose, and feeling of a space thereafter.
Rowen is currently studying their MA Degree in Fine Art from Leeds Beckett University as a postgraduate course following the receiving of their BA Degree from the same institution, with aspirations to take their practice both into the teaching world, as well as further afield in the contemporary world too, having had experience with such, being a participant artist in 2025’s Art Bomb Festival.
What a Bedroom Really Sounds Like
“What a Bedroom Really Sounds Like” is an audio work that uses contact microphones to capture the hidden noises that emanate from my bedroom. The noises include the sound of pipes behind the walls and water running through them, the plants around the room and the dehumidifier fan. These are all intimate background noises that are part of our day-to-day soundtrack.
