‘Rock#01’ explores the analogy of the ‘core’ being the problem as well as a solution to accessibility and inclusion. ‘Islands’ of disability, illness, and health conditions run through the core of many diversities, ethnicities, and backgrounds. Most sticks of rock have a pattern – usually the place name – running throughout the length in the ‘core’ and the artist uses this poetically.

By standing alone we are inadvertently closed off from the potential of shared ideas and opportunities becoming ‘Islands’ until we find and create unique connections. As an example, the Isle of Skye stands alone whilst keeping its identity and independence but benefits from a connecting bridge to the mainland, which asks us ‘when is an island not an island?’
