Audio Description:
‘Express Yourself‘, is a banner artwork created from a compilation of a two-day ‘Pride and Protest’ workshop. CoActive Arts members learnt, discussed, and created artwork individually and collectively around the theme of pride and protest. The slogan ‘Express Yourself’, links to the organisations previous creative work and its ongoing goal to foster ‘A Place To Belong Through The Arts.’ After being assembled CoActive Arts and its members participated within Wakefield Pride 2024, holding the banner to respect, celebrate and value humanity.
Organisation Text:
CoActive Arts is a Wakefield-based collective made up of artists with and without learning disabilities. They provide opportunities for people within the Wakefield District to engage with the arts for fun or health, and to develop as: dancers, performers, creators, leaders, and role models. Members have the opportunity to socialise, express themselves creatively, learn new skills and realise their ambitions.
The organisation's goal is to create places of belonging, where the unique humanity, value and potential of each person is recognised, celebrated, and encouraged. They also promote awareness and respect, for the value and creativity of people with learning difficulties through public exhibitions and performances. CoActive Arts ensures, skills and talents are developed and achievements are honoured, fostering “A Place To Belong Through The Arts.”
