Audio Description:  


‘1’ represents Sleepy Dormilón’s personal daily experience of autism and the challenges that the condition brings, whilst also recognising the benefits of receiving their diagnosis. The artwork takes the form of a clock, with the grey area depicting the social isolation, sensory sensitivities and emotional distress Sleepy Dormilón experiences because of their autism. Whereas the colourful red-orange section conveys a more positive experience of autism following their diagnosis, leading to self-acceptance of their assets like creativity and an affinity with animals.

‘1’ is a part of a set of three artworks that were created with the support from Unlimited through their Wakefield Micro Award.

Artist Bio
Sleepy Dormilón is a multi-disciplinary artist based in West Yorkshire, who rediscovered their love for art in 2020 during lockdown, creating both visual art and poetry. Their artwork focuses on themes of mental health, addiction, and identity using paint, pens, and various other materials. Due to often feeling misunderstood; their work is a means to conveys Sleepy Dormilón’s daily experiences in a hope to prosper understanding and connection to lead to acceptance and being understood, whilst also aiding them to process their own thoughts, feelings and experiences is of great importance.
